Tanzanite

A blue-violet gemstone and a variety of the mineral zoisite. It is exclusively found in a very small mining area near Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. The stone is famous for its color, which can range from vivid blue to deep violet-blue, and it often exhibits trichroism, meaning it can appear to show three different colors when viewed from various angles. Almost all tanzanite is heat-treated to achieve its desirable blue-violet color. It is a soft-to-medium hardness stone (6 to 7 on the Mohs scale).
